TempestLabs' technology is based on physics-informed models that respect the laws of nature and are capable of forecasting weather at spatial resolutions of metres and at temporal resolutions of minutes.

Global weather models provide forecasts for areas of approximately 10 × 10 kilometres and update them once an hour, but such resolution does not suffice everywhere. TempestLabs develops technology for situations where precise local conditions determine the outcome.

Today, the technology is utilized for example by ČEPS, for which TempestLabs generates weather forecasts for 17,000 locations at a height of 20 metres above the ground and models the sag of power lines based on actual local temperature, wind, and load. More precise data makes it possible to utilize the capacity of the existing transmission grid more efficiently.

In agriculture, it helps determine the timing of spraying, irrigation, or frost protection at the level of individual fields. In the field of defence, it provides hyperlocal wind, humidity, and temperature data for ballistic calculations, route planning, and terrain readiness assessment. In energy, it assists in managing grid capacity and estimating renewable energy production. Simultaneously, TempestLabs is developing a tool for wildfire hotspot detection at a 100-metre resolution for a Czech firefighting unit deployed on the Peloponnese in Greece.

The spin-off is powered by a team from the Data Science Laboratory at CTU FIT, which has long been engaged in modelling spatio-temporal data. Their WeatherFusionNet model won the Weather4cast challenge at the NeurIPS conference. Competing with teams from Alibaba, KAIST, SI Analytics, and researchers collaborating with Microsoft, it achieved the most accurate prediction of radar precipitation data from satellite images in areas lacking radar measurements.

TempestLabs builds on long-term collaborations with Škoda Auto, ČEPS, and Meteopress. The development of its technology is also supported by the ESA Business Incubation Centre (ESA BIC) of the European Space Agency.
